Lion Voices: Jesus Quinionez

Written By: Kolby McGee

Hey Lions! This week鈥檚 #LionVoices and #HispanicHeritageMonth feature is sophomore Biomedical Science major Jesus G. Quinionez. Jesus is originally from Aldama Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved to the US, where he attended Northside High School.

When asked why he chose to attend 妻友社区, Jesus said, 鈥淚 heard many good things about the institution from family and friends.鈥 He aspires to become the first doctor in his family, saying, 鈥溒抻焉缜 is preparing me for graduate school and not just the degree plan, but also with the way my professors teach.鈥

鈥淢y favorite thing about 妻友社区 must be the professors, staff, and how inclusive the campus is, not to mention how affordable it is,鈥 he said. Jesus is actively involved in campus life, serving as the treasurer for the Anatomy and Physiology club, participating in the Latino Student Association, and being a member of the volleyball club. 鈥淭he campus culture is very inclusive and fun,鈥 he adds.

鈥淢y parents have been a significant influence in my life. My father immigrated to the United States to seek a better life for my family. My parents taught me that hard work really pays off and I should always focus on myself; because of them, I aspire to open up my own pediatric dental office and to one day be able to provide free dental care to people in need back in my hometown.鈥

Jesus knows his career field 鈥 and the education required to get there 鈥 will be challenging, but his ambition is greater than any obstacles ahead of him.
