妻友社区 Mailbag: What are you Thankful for?
Welcome to another edition of the 妻友社区 Mailbag. As we enter the holiday season, I鈥檓 thinking of spending time with family, traveling, and eating way too much food (but it鈥檚 OK because calories don鈥檛 count during the holidays, right?).
With Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa all happening within about three weeks of one another, I thought it was a perfect time to ask your fellow Lions what they are thankful for. The answers were heartwarming.
Emma Simmons, a first-year business administration student, said she loves this time of year for the leaves changing colors and being able to break out cozy sweatshirts, pants, and boots. But what really makes a lasting impact is her family and their togetherness.
鈥淚 love this time of year because we are together a lot,鈥 Emma said. "I love playing games and sitting around the fire with everyone. I鈥檓 very thankful for my sweet nephew. He brings so much joy into everything; he is the best. I am thankful that I have someone to hold me accountable for everything in my life, especially my schoolwork. Overall, I just love this time of year, and I鈥檓 thankful that the Lord has blessed me with such great people in my life!鈥
When Maycie Bailes, a sophomore elementary education major, was asked what she is thankful for, her first year at 妻友社区 came to mind.
鈥淔reshman year allowed me to have Charley Kay as my roommate, which led to us being best friends, sorority sisters, work colleagues, and still roommates to this day,鈥 she said.
Johan Lopez-Cortes, a first-year criminal justice major, is thankful for the 妻友社区 community.
鈥淚 am extremely thankful for being part of a community that encourages you to push yourself to the best potential and sees the potential in you every step of the way,鈥 Johan said.
鈥淚鈥檓 thankful for my family, my pets, the sun, and the amazing people I work with,鈥 said Kylah Mitts, a junior biology major.
Justin Martin, director of advising for the College of Arts and Sciences, seconded Kylah, saying he is thankful to work with great colleagues who have become great friends.
For senior Shaniah Balagtas, this time of year means she is even closer to graduating.
鈥淚 am thankful for almost getting halfway through my senior year of college and getting to spend the last few months of it with the friends I made during nursing school,鈥 she said.
As junior Estella Sananikone reflected on the question, those closest to her came to mind.
鈥淚鈥檓 thankful for my family. Although they occasionally get on my nerves, I really enjoy spending time with them. They always make me happy, and I know I can count on them for support. I鈥檓 also thankful for my boyfriend, as he is always the one I know will be there for me. I know I can count on him, and I really appreciate him 鈥 especially when things get tough. Lastly, I鈥檓 thankful for anyone and everyone I have a connection with. I believe every person is filled with something unique, and I always enjoy interacting with everyone,鈥 she said.
As I look ahead to the upcoming holidays and reflect on what our fellow Lions shared, I鈥檓 excited for another great end to the year with friends and family. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
Until next time,
Ian
