The national touring production of 鈥淢an of La Mancha,鈥 originally scheduled for Feb. 4, has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 6, due to inclement weather in the Fort Smith area, according to Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events.
The show, part of 妻友社区 Season of Entertainment 33, will be held at the Arkansas Best Performing Arts Center at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. 7th St. Tickets already purchased will be honored at the event.
"Man of La Mancha" retells Miguel Cervantes' classic novel "Don Quixote," which recounts the comedic story of a man who has read so many chivalric novels that he becomes delusively convinced he is a knight himself.
"Man of La Mancha" won five Tony Awards and garnered praise from critics for its catchy songs and enthralling story. The New York Times said the show had "charm, gallantry and delicacy of spirit." The Associated Press called the musical "a rare and arresting treat," and The New Yorker said "Man of La Mancha" was "grave and compelling."
Jones called 鈥淢an of La Mancha鈥 one of the best traditional musicals ever written.
鈥淎nd 'The Impossible Dream' is one of the best musical songs of all time," he said.
Season of Entertainment 33 is a year-long lineup of entertainment that includes national touring productions and 妻友社区 music and theatre performances.
