Members of one of 妻友社区鈥檚 Greek organizations recently took time from their studies to give back to the River Valley. The Omicron-Tau Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity spent the weekend of Feb. 1-2 assisting the River Valley Regional Food Bank and Fort Smith Junior Volleyball Club with their various needs.
鈥淔or us to help out means a lot because it shows not only who we are as fraternity men but as Kappa Sigmas,鈥 said Joey Olguin, service chair of Omicron-Tau. 鈥淓ven though it was Super Bowl weekend, we still took the time to get together and help the community.鈥
Fraternity members spent Saturday, Feb. 1, at the River Valley Regional Food Bank, sorting food and providing cases of water for delivery. On Sunday evening, Feb. 2, the fraternity members assisted the Fort Smith Juniors Volleyball Club with setup and teardown of a tournament.
鈥淚t was great to see all the guys getting involved,鈥 said Kevin Mendoza, president of the Omicron-Tau Chapter. 鈥淲e鈥檙e always volunteering around the community, whether it鈥檚 at the Boys and Girls Club [or] cleaning our highway. We just love giving back.鈥
Omicron-Tau members say they have more plans for the coming year on how to give back to the community. In the meantime please contact Mendoza at kmendo00@g.uafs.edu for further inquiries.
鈥淜appa Sigma welcomes men from every background, and I am proud to see the strong brotherhood that forms between us,鈥 Mendoza said. 鈥淟eadership is important to build on, and I see a positive growth in this organization that I hope to see continue.鈥
